Deannie, Dental Hygienist
What inspired you to work in dentistry?
I wanted to be a dental hygienist from a young age. The hygiene list at Good Neighbors recently inspired me. I knew early on I wanted a career where I could help people feel confident about their smiles and overall health.
How do you help patients feel comfortable or confident during their visit?
I focus on creating a calm, judgment free environment. I take time to listen to the patient’s concerns, explain things clearly and move at a pace that feels comfortable for them. Helping patients feel heard and cared for is just as important to me as the clinical care itself.

What inspired you to work in dentistry?
When I was in middle and high school, my dental hygienist often encouraged me to consider dental hygiene as a career. That idea stayed with me, and when I got to college, I decided to pursue it. During my studies, I was also encouraged to continue my education and eventually teach in the program. I loved that opportunity and spent some time teaching, where I focused on encouraging students to truly understand their patients’ needs and build trust and strong relationships with them.
How do you help patients feel comfortable or confident during their visit?
I start by listening to their concerns and asking questions about what brought them into our office. Understanding their experiences and worries helps me address their needs more effectively. In many cases, their concerns can be resolved with a clear explanation of the recommended treatment. Other times, we can help relieve discomfort with products that reduce tooth or tissue sensitivity. My goal is to make sure patients feel heard, informed, and comfortable throughout their visit.

Gardening, baking bread, meeting with friends, visiting with my children and traveling are all enjoyable to me.
